Utah's Great Salt Lake has an average salinity seven times higher than that of the oceans. Very few multicellular organisms live

in this harsh environment. An example is the brine shrimp, which must denote a large portion of its metabolic energy to osmoregulation. These brine shrimp must _____.

Explanation:

The movement of water takes place from higher concentration to lower concentrations via semipermeable membrane is known as osmosis.

The water from the external environment is moved inside the cell. This is important because due to salinity the water is moved out of the cell and it is important to maintain an optimum amount of water inside the cell.

The water is pumped actively inside the body because the lake has lots of salt in it. Due to loss of water there must be some system that helps in moving water against the concentration gradient.

Answer: actively pump water back into their cells to counter its loss due to osmosis.

Explanation:

The salt lake is the hypertonic solution that means it exhibit the high concentration of salt as compared to what is present in the cells of the organisms. Thus the cells of animals or plants in the hypertonic solution shrinks as they will loose water. The water moves from the higher concentration to the lower concentration.

The brine shrimp cells will shrink in the hypertonic solution of the salt water. Thus the shrimp will actively take or pump water inside the cell to counter balance the loss of water caused due to osmosis.

Sickle cell anemia is an example of a disorder that can be detected in newborns by: using the apgar scale. taking a urine sample
Basile [38]

The sickle cell anaemia is a condition, in which the red blood cells of the affected person becomes sickle shaped. This condition is caused by an autosomal recessive condition, which is a genetic disorder. Due to the sickle shaped RBC, the Hemoglobin becomes unable to bind with the oxygen efficiently, as a result it causes anaemia.

As this condition is caused by genetic abnormality, it can be detected by a DNA analysis.

You are studying natural selection in a population of small marine invertebrates called isopods that live on pink corals. In thi
yulyashka [42]

Answer:

Aa, bb

Explanation:

Recall that this question calls our attention to the theory of evolution as postulated by Charles Darwin. Species that are well adapted to their environment are more likely to survive, reproduce and pass on these favourable characteristics to their offspring.

In this case, the coral reefs are pink and pink Isopod species with small bodies are likely to escape the predators. Hence the genetic combination Aa(pink body) and bb(small body) are more likely to survive and reproduce.

Alenkasestr [34]
