3.) The independent variable was the type of rice the chickens ate, that were then eaten by the people. The dependent variable is the chickens that people were eating.
4.) The doctor figured out that because the people didn’t eat chickens fed polished rice, a type of rice that had an essential vitamin of thiamine, they had a deficiency of it, which led to Beriberi.
5.) Dr. Eijkman could test the hypothesis by making the people ONLY eat chickens fed whole grain rice and see if the disease went away.
