That statement is true

Since maya is technically not a kingdom, the structure of mayan cities were very irregular compared to the Aztecs, and the Spanish soldiers at that time did not know the way to handle them. The maya also employed better millitary strategies compared to the Aztecs, which is why Spanish soldiers need a lot of time to take them down.
