Thylakoids are important membrane proteins in the chloroplast that are responsible for harvesting light during the first stage of photosynthesis where light-dependent reactions occur. These thylakoids found in the stroma frequently form stacks of discs in an alternating pattern of dark and light bands called grana that function as a single compartment.
<span>
Thylakoid membranes enclose thylakoid lumens that are responsible for phosphorylation during photosynthesis. The thylakoid membrane is responsible for pumping protons across the thylakoid lumen making the structure acidic with a pH 4.</span>

Why are both mitosis and meiosis important in passing on information from one generation to the next?
nignag [31]
Mitosis makes copies of the host, so it is a good option to increase the population because it is a fast process. Meiosis is important to create genetic diversity, because it makes four genetically different haploid cells, instead of two genetically identical diploid cells, as mitosis does.

The mrna codon CUU could mutate to C___ and still code for leucine, which could be a neutral mutation. What is the blank?
Lelechka [254]
A codon is a sequence of three bases found on the messenger RNA (mRNA) molecule which is translated to produce an amino acid. Each amino acid is coded by one or more specific codons. If the codon is changed through a mutation, the amino acid produced may be different. However, in this case, the other codons that produce Leucine are:

UUA, UUG, CUU, CUC, CUA and CUG

So the code CUU could mutate to CUC, CUA or CUG and leucine would still be produced.
