Crank

Answer:

Responses may vary but should include some or all of the following motivation: The biggest factor motivating ranchers and cowboys was a chance to make a profit on selling their herds. Following the Civil War, Texas experienced a large surplus of cattle. This meant that prices were very low. However, ranchers realized that they could sell their cattle for much higher prices in railroad cities, where high demand would send these cattle to Eastern and Midwestern states. 8. Why did Memphis become a center for the cotton industry and the slave trade? (choose two)
almond37 [142]

Answer:

 • A. West Tennessee was the richest cotton-producing region in the state.
 • E. Memphis was located on the Mississippi River.

Memphis is located in the western area of Tennessee where due to very fertile soil, a high grade of cotton could be produced. This allowed for large plantations around Memphis that saw the city rise in statue as cotton was traded in it.
