Answer:

In the early 1850s the French diplomat and engineer Ferdinand de Lesseps (1805–1894) revived earlier French plans to build a canal through the Isthmus of Suez. He saw the immense benefits such a canal would bring, reducing by 3000 miles the distance by sea between Bombay and London, and he was instrumental in its successful completion. These letters, published in this English translation in 1876, show how De Lesseps persuaded the Viceroy of Egypt to allow construction, and how he overcame opposition from Britain and Turkey. Letters to the Viceroy, Emperor Napoleon III, Members of Parliament, diplomats, and politicians throughout Europe, together with more personal letters to his wife, all illustrate his resolute determination to see his project succeed. This is an invaluable source, not only on the canal, but also on the politics of the major powers and European attitudes towards the Middle East and its people.

How were the D-Day invasions planned? What were the setbacks? Why were the Allied invasions of France so important? What, in you
lara [203]

Answer:

D-Day invasions plan introduced by the Allied group to re-take France from Nazi Germany.

Explanation:

During the Second World War, D-Day planned to begin with Paratroopers dropping into France before the invasion. Their goal was to re-take France from the hands of Germans. Allied forces pushed Germans back and caused Germany to fight a two-front war. It was one of the military assaults in history that required extensive planning with troops from American, British and Canadian. The outcome was the victory on the Allies side during the D-Day Normandy landings.  The invasion has called for starting the end of the war in Europe.

Why were the siege of Vicksburg and the battle of Gettysburg crucial to the outcome of the war?
ira [324]
The Siege of Vicksburg was important to the Union troops because they were able to take control of the Mississippi River. This allowed the Union troops to cut the Confederacy in half and allowed the Union to cut of supplies/resources to Confederate states.

The Battle of Gettysburg was an important Union win because this was the last time in the Civil War that the Confederate troops truly invaded the North. After this battle they did not invade any state north of Pennsylvania.
