Which two sentences in this excerpt from South! show that Shackleton felt his men displayed determination in difficult situation

s?
A(The conditions in the boat, uncomfortable before, had been made worse by the deluge of water.) All our gear was thoroughly wet again. Our cooking-stove had been floating about in the bottom of the boat, and portions of our last hoosh seemed to have permeated everything. Not until 3 a.m., when we were all chilled almost to the limit of endurance, did we manage to get the stove alight and make ourselves hot drinks. B(The carpenter was suffering particularly, but he showed grit and spirit.) Vincent had for the past week ceased to be an active member of the crew, and I could not easily account for his collapse. Physically he was one of the strongest men in the boat. He was a young man, he had served on North Sea trawlers, and he should have been able to bear hardships better than McCarthy, who, not so strong, was always happy … C( gentle snow-slope descended at our feet towards a valley that separated our ridge from the hills immediately behind Husvik, and as we stood gazing Worsley said solemnly, “Boss, it looks too good to be true!”) Down we went, to be checked presently by the sight of water 2500 ft. below. We could see the little wave-ripples on the black beach, penguins strutting to and fro, and dark objects that looked like seals lolling lazily on the sand. This was an eastern arm of Fortuna Bay, separated by the ridge from the arm we had seen below us during the night. The slope we were traversing appeared to end in a precipice above this beach. D(But our revived spirits were not to be damped by difficulties on the last stage of the journey, and we camped cheerfully for breakfast.) Whilst Worsley and Crean were digging a hole for the lamp and starting the cooker I climbed a ridge above us, cutting steps with the adze, in order to secure an extended view of the country below.

The two sentences included in the excerpt that demonstrates that Shackleton felt his men displayed determination in difficult situations are the following observations :

"When we were all chilled almost to the limit of endurance, did we manage to get the stove alight and make ourselves hot drinks (The carpenter was suffering particularly, but he showed grit and spirit)"

"The slope we were traversing appeared to end in a precipice above this beach. (But our revived spirits were not to be damped by difficulties on the last stage of the journey, and we camped cheerfully for breakfast)"

Then, B and D are the answers to our question.

The messages of these two poems are similar as both poems suggest that music offers contentment in life.

Answer: Option A

Explanation:

Just like how John Keats calls a thing of beauty to be a joy forever, music is something which provides a lot of happiness for the poet. Here, in the first poem, he feels happy to sing a song when he is with his cattle. In the second one, he likes to hype up his soul using a song. In this way, concluding that the poet explains the significance of music and how it has influenced him in both the poems.

Answer:

Mr. Avery Gatson, the policeman, drives Lily and Rosaleen to jail while the three white men follow in their pickup truck. Lily is impressed by how resolute and strong Rosaleen seems. When they arrive at the jail, the three men are waiting. They demand that Rosaleen apologize. When she refuses, one hits her on the head with a flashlight. Mr. Gatson then takes the two women into jail. T. Ray soon comes to take Lily out, but they leave Rosaleen behind. While driving home, T. Ray tells Lily that one of Rosaleen’s three attackers—Franklin Posey—is the town’s worst racist and that he will kill Rosaleen even if she does apologize. At home, T. Ray scolds Lily harshly, but she stands up to him. She tells him that her mother will not let him harm her, but he laughs at the idea that her dead mother functions as her guardian angel. He tells Lily that Deborah had already abandoned Lily when she returned home and was killed. This comment hurts Lily deeply, but she does not believe T. Ray. She notices that the bee jar next to her bed is empty, and she realizes that she too needs to escape her own jar. She needs to run away.

Why do you think that Tara Westover chose the VirginiaWoolf epigraph at the beginning of her story?
KonstantinChe [14]

Answer:

Virginia Woolf was an English author born in 1882. She was one of the first writers to use the narrative technique known as stream of consciousness. Woolf is quoted often in today's world. One of her quotes is the one mentioned above:

"... the past is beautiful because one never realizes an emotion at the time. It expands later, and thus we don't have complete emotions about the present, only the past."

Many authors, such as Tara Westover, use this quote in their own work. It is likely that Woolf was attempting to express the concept that "hindsight is 20/20" or something similar to this. This means that the past can only be appreciated because with the past comes memories that hold emotions.
