There are several ways a fetus can be exposed to teratogen in the mothers womb. It has to cross the placenta to cause harm to the fetus. Some of the ways this can effect the fetus are;

Drugs
Hormones released by the mother while under extreme stress.
The fetus can pass away while in the womb in the 2nd trimester if their is a large amount of teratogen to pass the placenta. If the baby is born, there can be several birth defects such as a heart defect.
In rare cases, people who have very high triglyceride levels may develop inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), which can cause sudden, severe abdominal (belly) pain, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting, and fever.
If you have high triglycerides, you may also have high cholesterol.
