Giles Corey is a strong old man who has only recently converted to Christianity. He's likable, but is not too bright. His biggest bumble in the play is when brings up the fact that his wife reads strange books. To Giles, any book is strange and the idea of a woman wanting to read totally blows his mind. His mention of this fact leads to an accusation that his wife is a witch.

Giles feels terrible about this. He knows his wife is innocent and recognizes that his own actions have led to her incarceration and impending death. He attempts to defend his wife by going to the court and showing them proof that, in at least one case, the accusation is based on Thomas Putnam’s greed for a neighbor’s bit of land. This backfires and he is condemned himself.

Corey's incredible strength of character is shown in the end when he neither confesses to, nor denies, the charges of witchcraft. By doing so, he ensures that his sons can legally inherit his property. Even though he is brutally tortured by having crushingly heavy stones place on his chest, the only thing Giles says is "More weight"

Yuri [45]

Answer:

B-Seamen are mostly uninterested in land-related matters, but Marlow has a wider range of interests.

Explanation:

The narrator frequently claimed that seamen would prefer to stay at sea, in their ship. They are not curious enough about matters on land and would take a rare visit on the shore as revealing enough. Marlow was regarded as a strange seaman due to his so-called 'wandering'. In fact, his remark might have been due to discovery of a new area on land

The tone of this speech can best be described as
aev [14]
Hey,

I think the correct answer would be haughty as haughty means proud and somewhat arrogant.
And throughout the speech we can see that he is very proud of his nation and that he vows that no one shall perish in his nation.
For example he says conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Here he says how his nation was created as a better place for men to live.
And he also says that the ground is hollow and that a lot of men have struggled on the ground.

So therefore I think the answer is haughty.

Hope this helps !!
