However, in this part of the story, the father was not sharing his opinion or his viewpoint about the diary but only repeating what someone else had said.

The fact that her father smiled about it shows that he was happy and proud of his daughter. Her father also seemed disappointed because he was able to say that it was written by his daughter because he was proud of her.
