Transtheoretical model (TTM) or stages of change model was developed by Prochaska and DiClemente in the late 1970s while conducting research on the experience of smokers who stopped on own and those that stop with the medical aid. The series of change involved six distinct stages which are
1. precontemplation stage
2. contemplation stage
3. preparation stage,
4. action stage
5. maintenance stage
6. termination stage
The combination of the above series of stage affect how we tends to behave or response to intervention.
