The founding moment of Suffragism is historically placed in 1848 with the Declaration of Sentiments at Seneca Falls.

The declaration faced political restrictions: not being able to vote, stand for elections, hold public office, join political organizations or attend political meetings. It also went against economic restrictions: the prohibition of having property, since the goods were transferred to the husband; the prohibition of engaging in trade, owning business or opening current accounts and expressed against the denial of civil or legal rights for women.

In the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, American feminists began an active campaign for the suffrage. Directed by Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906), Lucy Stone (1818-1893) and Elisabeth Cady Stanton (1815-1902) and framed since 1890 in the American National Association for the Suffrage of Women (National American Woman Suffrage Association), directed their efforts to obtain the vote in the different states and to force a change in the American Constitution.

The women's vote was approved through popular consultations in various states: Wyoming (1869), Utah (1870), Colorado (1893), Idaho (1896), Washington (1910), California (1911), Oregon, Arizona and Kansas (1912). ) and Nevada and Montana (1914).

In 1917 the first congresswoman of the United States, Jeanette Rankin, was elected in Montana.

Finally, in 1919, President Wilson, of the Democratic Party, personally announced his support for women's suffrage.

In 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution granting the right to vote to women was approved.

Do you feel that immigration and border control should fall within the jurisdiction of the states or of the federal government?
MrRa [10]
Illegal immigration is a problem of the entire federation, not just of the state where the immigrant has entered. That is because the taxes are collected on a federal level and budged distribution is done on a federal level. That means that if a state allows illegal immigration, which usually comprises of people in the gray zone economy, it will harm the people from other states because the immigrants would not be paying taxes and the other states would be receiving less.
