Charles-Louis de Secondat, Baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu, was a popular French philosopher of the early 1800s. Baron de Montesquieu though was not directly involved in the development of the United States Constitution, but his views and beliefs on government were crucial in providing the framework for the separation of powers.

Montesquieu's perspectives and studies of governments made him to conclude that government corruption will be possible if a system of government does have all the balance of powers. He developed the concept of separating government's authority into three major branches which are: executive, legislative and Judiciary. This perspective extensively influenced the authors of the Constitution in establishing laws and division of duties, and also in the inclusion of provisions to protect individual liberties.
