How did darry acted as a parent when ponyboy arrived home late?

When Ponyboy gets home, Darry is up waiting for him. When Darry sees him, he starts yelling at Ponyboy. He questions him about where he has been and what he has been doing. Soda tries to stick up for Ponyboy, but Darry yells at him.
