Hudson river is around 315-mile river in New York, and it is named after 'Henry Hudson'. It played a major role during the French-Indian war and during American revolutionary war. It has been major source of trade since colonial times.  

Erie Canal was built on Hudson river which became a source of trade initially for coal and later for other goods. The river also made transportation of goods from Northeast's interior to the coast. Numerous factories were built on this river. The 'Hudson Valley' also attracted building of railroads.
