Answer:

"Born a slave in 1809, William Tiler Johnson was

freed in 1820 by his owner (most likely his father)

who had earlier freed his mother and sister. He

became an apprentice barber in the Mississippi

River town of Natchez and in 1830 took over his

brother-in-law’s barbershop. In 1835 he married

Amy Battles, also a free person of color, with

whom he had eleven children.

In 1835 Johnson began a personal diary to record his daily activities and financial affairs. He operated several barber shops and

a bathhouse, owned land and buildings which he rented out, and regularly loaned money at interest to black and white men

alike. He was also a slaveowner, as were many other free blacks in the South. In 1851 Johnson was murdered in a land dispute.

These diary entries span six years from 1838 to 1844, when Johnson was in his late twenties and early thirties. "

5.) The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 resulted from:
borishaifa [10]

Answer:

a. The growing fear by white Americans who felt the Chinese presence would lead to unemployment.

Explanation:

The golden rush in California attracted many Chinese laborers since thre late 1840s. After 1850, some 20,000 arrived each year. The Chinese laborers worked very hard under terrible conditions in mining and other jobs, and often for minimun wages. By 1880, there were 100,000 Chinese males in California.

Because of their attitude, they were the main labor force hired in railway construction and other hard jobs. White workers, many of them Irish, were angry because of this situation. They felt cheated and jealous. Racist and xenophobia flourished, often with violent attacks on the Chinese. As it has happened in other period of American history regarding immigrant groups, Chinese immigrants were seen as the origin of economic problems and of falling wages.

Firlakuza [10]

In WW1, the Japanese army only had to clean up what it could get from the German colonial possessions. Tsingtao was its biggest engagement and went well. It had not cost the lives of countless Japanese soldiers.

Contrast that to WW2, where you have an army that has been fighting in China since 1931 and then was thrust into the jungles of southeast Asia and the Pacific in a bitter fight for survival against the British and Americans. When you have spilled your blood, you are less predisposed to the gallantries of "civilized" fighting.
