Probably the main reason Africans, rather than Native Americans, became slaves in America was that

If you think about it, Native Americans knew the land. I believe at first the European settlers in the New World tried to enslave them but to no avail. As for Africans being slaves it was perfect for the settlers because the blacks didn't know the land and they were easy to manipulate because the blacks most likely did not have an education. Hopefully that helps.
