Answer:

A. He mocks the news and the people who obsess over it, implying that they are blind to life and reality because of their news obsession.

Explanation:

Henry David Thoreau's response to people's interest in the news in this excerpt shows that He mocks the news and the people who obsess over it, implying that they are blind to life and reality because of their news obsession.

Actually, from the excerpt, it is clear that people are obsessed with the news. They see the news as indispensable as the breakfast. Also, the author reveals that they are blind to life and reality in that they wake up from sleep and what they request for is the news. What an obsession!

So, their news obsession shows that they are blind to life and reality.

krek1111 [17]

Although Jim exhibits many racial stereotypes, his persona was quite progressive for the time.

What are stereotypes?

 • A stereotype is a fixed, overly generalized belief about a certain group or class of people that are used in social psychology.
 • Stereotyping implies that an individual possesses a wide range of traits and skills that we presume all members of that group possess.
 • Researchers have discovered that there are misconceptions about certain racial, cultural, or ethnic groupings.
 • While the phrases race, culture, and ethnic groupings have various definitions, for this discussion, we will assume that they all refer to approximately the same thing.

Persona of Jim

 • Civil War wounds were still quite painful. Therefore, even though Jim exhibits many racial stereotypes, for the period, his character was quite forward-thinking.
 • The only functioning family in the novel is Jim's. He deeply misses his wife and children.
 • Jim has a sense of the natural world, like on Jackson's Island that Huck does not have.
 • Jim demonstrates a sense of devotion and friendship that is uncommon among white people.

Hence, despite the numerous racial stereotypes Jim displays, his persona was extremely progressive for the time.

Briefly, share a time when you set a goal and did not accomplish it, and then share a time when you set a goal and successfully
Anna [14]

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Once, I set a goal and did not accomplish it because I lacked the commitment needed to accomplish it. Plain and simple.

But I want to share a time when I set a goal and successfully achieved it because I changed my attitude, show the proper commitment, and set clear goals that helped me to accomplish what I desired.

As I wrote above, I failed in the first example because I did not commit to the things that were necessary to do in order to get what I wanted. I did not take things seriously.

However, I was successful in my second example because I understood the lesson the first time I failed. I realized how the other people showed a different attitude than mine and they got better results.

It is true that effective goal-setting helps us achieve goals because they help us to get a clear picture of what we want and the things we need to do to get them.

Some characteristics of good goals are that they have to be specific, measurable, and attainable.

My three goals are:

Short-term.

To improve my school marks from an average of B to B+ the next semester, beginning in January 2021.

One mid-term. To be a first-team player on the basketball team of my school by March 2021.

Long-term. To get an opportunity to go to a summer exchange to a foreign country in the summer of 2022, to learn how people live and learn from a different culture.
