Fallow usually means that something is not fertile or being used to grow anything. Often it is seen used when talking about fields used to grow crops. Allowing a field to lay fallow for a certain amount of time can help it gain back some of the key nutrients in the soil that excessive farming may have depleted. The story "Spunk" begins with Walter Thomas and Elijah Mosley, the men on the porch of the store. They witness Lena Kanty wondering off into the bushes with a man that is not her husband, Spunk. As they talk about Spunk and his bravery, Joe (Lena's husband) walks into the store. Joe is highly timid compared to Spunk, and he is mocked for being cuckolded by his wife. Elijah then advises Joe that they saw his wife and Spunk together, causing Joe to go after them with a knife.

The men appear to entertain each other with gossip, and instigating conflict between people. They most likely have nothing more interesting to do.

Are you speaking of Grandma Ling by Amy Ling? If so, then think about it. The poem starts off with her in the US. In the second stanza, it speaks of her going to visit her grandmother in Taiwan. In the end of the of the Second stanza it described the speaker to look much like her grandmother. In the last stanza, the speaker tells you her grandmother speaks in a language she does not know, leading you to believe that her grandmother cant speak English. Knowing this information, what is the most reasonable conclusion you can make from it?
