Two tectonic plates meet beneath the Himalayas along a fault line which caused the earthquake.Some effects of the earthquake are,it destroyed 4 important UNESCO cultural sites heritage sites of Nepal,the earthquake caused avalanches on mount Everest and killed at least 19 people,at least 180 buildings was destroyed and more than 4,300 people were killed with many losing their homes and families.
