The idea behind it is that it is like loot in war and that those who win can become the rulers and choose who gets positions. It doens't have to be corrupt since corruption is criminal activity and these people can actually do well. Many consider it to not be ethical, but it doesn't have to be corrupt.

The Erie Canal reinvigorated Detroit.

The Erie Canal was a very ambitious project that connected Detroit and the huge commercial powerhouse of New York City.

Detroit benefitted hugely from this because:

  • it became a center of trade as people came to trade things coming and going to New York
  • the population rose significantly as a result of it being a center of trade
  • the city became more modern to accommodate it's newfound status.

We can therefore conclusively state that the Erie canal had such a massive influence on Detroit that it is no exaggeration to say that Detroit would not be the city it is today with the canal.

Well I’m not gonna write out two paragraphs but some important tech and economical developments were:

The radio became widespread. It was welcomed by the public and by 1934 almost 60% of the US had radio access. Sports events, news, dramas and more were broadcasted through the radio.

Stock markets across the west developed negatively. On Black Tuesday, stock markets crashed, sending the world into the Great Depression.
