Empirical probability is computed by running an experiment multiple times (in this case, asking the same question to many people), and then computing the ratio

\dfrac{\text{good cases}}{\text{all cases}}

In this case, 236 people over 991 said that they checked the portfolio daily, so the empirical probability is

P(\text{daily check})=\dfrac{236}{991}

Which you can round as 0.238, i.e. 23.8%.

Answer:

<h2>41. x = √2</h2><h2>42. x = √5</h2><h2>43. x = 4</h2><h2>44. x = 4√3</h2>

Step-by-step explanation:

The Pythagorean Theorem:

leg^2+leg^2=hypotenuse^2\to a^2+b^2=c^2

41.\\\\a=1,\ b=1,\ c=x\\\\x^2=1^2+1^2\\\\x^2=1+1\\\\x^2=2\to x=\sqrt2

42.\\a=1, b=2,\ c=x\\\\x^2=1^2+2^2\\\\x^2=1+4\\\\x^2=5\to x=\sqrt5

43.\\a=3,\ b=x,\ c=5\\\\3^2+x^2=5^2\\\\9+x^2=25\qquad\text{subtract 9 from both sides}\\\\x^2=16\to x=\sqrt{16}\to x=4

44.\\\\a=4,\ b=x,\ c=8\\\\4^2+x^2=8^2\\\\16+x^2=64\qquad\text{subtract 16 from both sides}\\\\x^2=48\to x=\sqrt{48}\\\\x=\sqrt{16\cdot3}\qquad\text{use}\ \sqrt{ab}=\sqrt{a}\cdot\sqrt{b}\\\\x=\sqrt{16}\cdot\sqrt3\\\\x=4\sqrt3

Is there a way to understand inequalities better? I don't get them at all!
AlekseyPX
Ok for inequalities it's this < and > that so here's a example prob 3>2 so as my teacher used it put it "it's like the little number eats the bigger number." For negatives the one that's being eaten would be the one that's the closest to 0 so -3>-5 also alone way of doing this is to make a number line that's another way I was taught how to do these. I hope this helps you!
