The landowners patterned their lifestyles on the rich Spanish gentry. They do not do any work, they expect their workers or "rancheros" to ride horses and secure the land from trespassers Till the land and grow crops. Breed cattle. All these in exchange for accommodations and minimal earnings.  <span />
