Lisa's penny bank is 1/10 full. After she adds 440 pennies, it is 3/5 full. How many pennies can Lisa's bank hold?

Mathematics

Lisa [10]3 years ago
5 0

First lets change the fractions so they have common denominators:

3/5 = 6/10

The bank was 1/10, after adding the pennies it was 6/10

6/10 - 1/10 = 5/10 = 1/2

This means 400 pennies filled 1/2 the piggy bank.

There are 2 halves (1/2) to a whole ( full piggy bank).

The piggy bank can hold 400 x 2 = 800 pennies.

An online furniture store sells chairs for $150 each and tables for $400 each. Every day, the store can ship no more than 30 pie
ivolga24 [154]

Answer:

minimum of 13 chairs must be sold to reach a target of $6500

and a max of 20 chairs can be solved.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that:

Price of chair = $150

Price of table = $400

Let the number of chairs be denoted by c and tables by t,

According to given condition:

t + c = 30 ----------- eq1

t(150) + c(400) = 6500 ------ eq2

Given that:

10 tables were sold so:

t = 10

Putting in eq1

c = 20 (max)

As the minimum target is $6500 so from eq2

10(150) + 400c = 6500

400c = 6500 - 1500

400c = 5000

c = 5000/400

c = 12.5

by rounding off

c = 13

So a minimum of 13 chairs must be sold to reach a target of $6500

i hope it will help you!

Write a quadratic equation with the given roots. Write the equation in the form ax2 + bx + c = 0 where a, b, and c are integers.
Vikki [24]

A quadratic with roots at 8 and 5 is f(x) = x^2 +12x + 20

In order to find an equation given roots you can create statements that equal 0 in order to create parenthesis. For instance we know x = 8 at one point. So, we can solve that to equal 0.

x = -2 ----> add 2 to both sides

x + 2 = 0

We can do the same for the other zero.

x = -10 ----> add 10 to both sides

x + 10 = 0

Now that we have both of these, we can multiply these two things together. This will give us the function we need.

f(x) = (x + 2)(x + 10)

f(x) = x^2 + 10x + 2x + 20

f(x) = x^2 + 12x + 20
