"Granny and the Golden Bridge" by Claribel Alegria is a short story about the narrator Manuel's grandmother who owned a small hut near the Golden Bridge and helped the troops in spying for them. But after one of the <em>compas</em> was killed, the Guards were looking for the old granny who used to cook for the troops. In disguise, she acted as a brothel owner, telling the troops that the old lady had moved away after the bridge was blown up.
