The correct answer is the third option. Lovborg is Tesman's rival, so Hedda tells Tesman that she burned the manuscript in order to eliminate any competition for her husband. This is, of course, a lie, but Hedda had to come up with something to tell her husband in order not to raise his suspicion.

The Aztecs went to nearby tribes demanding that they join their empire, because they wanted more land and to gain more power. The tribe had sixty days to agree to join. Then, they conquered a lot of kingdoms to maintain their power. The Empire fell to smallpox.
