Write an equation in the form y =mx+b

Mathematics

Answer:

y = 20x

Step-by-step explanation:

y =mx+b

The y intercept is zero because it goes through the point (0,0)

That means b is zero

We need to find the slope

m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

    = (40-20)/(2-1)

    = 20/1

m = 20

The equation is

y = 20x+0

y = 20x

We need to write an equation in the slope-intercept form : y = mx + b

We can already determine that the value for be would be 0, since the graph is starting at 0.

Our equation currently looks like this:

y = mx + 0

To find the slope, or m, we must determine how much the graph is changing by. In other words, what is the rate of change for the graph.

We could see that for everyone 1 minute, there is 20 gallons of water, which means that this would be our m value

Your equation should look like this:

y = 20x + 0

Answer:

y = 20x + 0

or

y = 20x

(They're both the same thing)

Find the circumference and the area of a circle with diameter 4 ft.
ICE Princess25 [194]

Answer:

To find the circumference of a circle, your equation is 2*pi*radius

C=2*3.14*2 (radius is half of diameter so 4/2=2, 2=radius)

C=12.56 ft

To find the area of a circle, your equation would be pie*r^2

A=3.14*2^2

A=3.14*4

A=12.56 sq. ft

Hope this helps ;)

Ex 7) Imagine a mile-long bar of metal such as the rail along railroad tracks. Suppose that the rail is anchored on both ends an
Fantom [35]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  about 44.5 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

We can write relations for the height of the rail as a function of initial length and expanded length, but the solution cannot be found algebraically. A graphical solution or iterative solution is possible.

Referring to the figure in the second attachment, we can write a relation between the angle value α and the height of the circular arc as ...

  h = c·tan(α) . . . . . . where c = half the initial rail length

Then the length of the expanded rail is ...

  s = r(2α) = (c/sin(2α)(2α) . . . . . . where s = half the expanded rail length

Rearranging this last equation, we have ...

  sin(2α)/(2α) = c/s

It is this equation that must be solved iteratively. We find the solution to be ...

  α ≈ 0.0168538794049 radians

So, the height of the circular arc is ...

  h = 2640.5·tan(0.0168538794049) ≈ 44.4984550191 . . . feet

The rail will bow upward by about 44.5 feet.

_____

Additional comments

Note that s and c in the diagram are half the lengths of the arc and the chord, respectively. The ratio of half-lengths is the same as the ratio of full lengths: c/s = 2640/2640.5 = 5280/5281.

We don't know the precise shape the arc will take, but we suspect is is not a circular arc. It seems likely to be a catenary, or something similar.

__

We used Newton's method iteration to refine the estimate of the angle from that shown on the graph. The iterator used is x' = x -f(x)/f'(x), where x' is the next guess based on the previous guess of x. Only a few iterations are required obtain an angle value to full calculator precision.

The radius of a circle is 10. Using π, which equation expresses the ratio of the circumference of the circle to the circle's dia
Liula [17]

Answer:

π = C / d

Step-by-step explanation:

The circumference of a circle is given by the general formula;

C = 2 * π * r .... or C = π d  (r = radius, d = diameter)

We can easily modify the second formula to isolate π in order to express the circumference in relation to the diameter:

π = C / d

To obtain π, you need to divide the circumference by the diameter.

We're used to think about the circumference in terms of radius... but since we deal with 2 * r * π and that 2 * r = d... it's also convenient to use the diameter.
