  • This part of the Constitution protected the slave trade for twenty years, until the year 1808.

  • to determine the states’ representation, the constitution stated this rule, it allowed for a bigger amount of representation in states with slaves, however, they were not allowed to vote, therefore they were not the ones choosing that representation.

<em>3.</em><em> States were expected to return runaway slaves to their rightful owners.</em>

  • Article 4, section 2
  • This one considered that even if a person held for labor in one state had fleed to another state in which the law exempted them of those labors, they had to be returned anyway to the state their owner in the state they were fleeing.
