Andre and Diego were each trying to solve 2x+6=3x−8. Describe the first step they each make to the equation. The result of Andre
Oksi-84 [34.3K]

Answer:

 • Andre subtracted 3x from both sides
 • Diego subtracted 2x from both sides

Step-by-step explanation:

Andre

Comparing the result of Andre's work with the original, we see that the "3x" term on the right is missing, and the x-term on the left is 3x less than it was. It is clear that Andre subtracted 3x from both sides of the equation.

__

Diego

Comparing the result of Diego's work with the original, we see that the "2x" term on the left is missing, and the x-term on the right is 2x less than it was. It is clear that Diego subtracted 2x from both sides of the equation.

_____

Comment on their work

IMO, Diego has the right idea, as his result leaves the x-term with a positive coefficient. He can add 8 and he's finished, having found that x=14.

Andre can subtract 6 to isolate the variable term, and that will give him -x=-14. This requires another step to get to x=14. Sometimes minus signs get lost, so this would not be my preferred sequence of steps.

As a rule, I like to add the opposite of the variable term with the least (most negative) coefficient. This results in the variable having a positive coefficient, making errors easier to avoid.

money marilyn is going on a class outing to an amusement park. she has $40 to spend. the admission price is $20. she plans to bu
wariber [46]

Money Marilyn can buy 1≤ x≤5 (more than or equal to one and less than or equal to five) cups of lemonade from the rest of the money.

Here we have,

Total money to spend= $40

Admission price= $20

Sandwich= $5

Add all expenses to find the money spent by Money Marilyn.

Total expense= admission price + sandwich

Total expense = $20 + $5 = $25

Amount left with her= $40-$25 = $15

The number of cups when each cup's cost is $3

Total lemonade(x) = $15/$3 = $5

In an equality,

Money Marilyn can buy 1≤ x≤5 (more than or equal to one and less than or equal to five) lemonades from the rest of the money.

Your cell phone plan costs $24.99 per month plus $0.14 for each text message you send or receive. You have at most $29 to spe
galina1969 [7]

Answer: You can send or receive a maximum of 21 text messages per month.

Step-by-step explanation:

First, you need to take out the number the phone bill costs (24.99)

29 - 24.99 = 4.01

Then, you need to find out how many 0.19 fit into 4.01.

21 * 0.19 = 3.99. Any more than that and it would go over.
