World War II was a war conflict that occurred in the first half of the twentieth century, involving more than seventy nations, opposing the Allies to the Axis Powers. The war began on September 1, 1939 with the invasion of Poland by Germany and subsequent war declarations from France and Great Britain, extending until September 2, 1945.

This war mobilized more than 100 million military personnel, and resulted in the deaths of approximately seventy million people (approximately 2% of the world's population at the time), mostly civilians. It is considered the biggest and bloodiest conflict in the history of mankind.

The main nations that fought for the Axis were: Italy, Japan and Germany. Those who fought for the Allies were especially France, Britain, the United States, and the Soviet Union.

The war ended with the surrender of the Axis nations, followed by the creation of the United Nations (UN), the beginning of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union (which emerged from the conflict as world superpowers) and the acceleration of the process. of decolonization in Asia and Africa.
