The Monroe Doctrine was an American Foreign Policy still in effect
today. It stated that the US would not allow foreign powers to come and
interfere in the politics and lives of North, Central, and South
Americans. If a foreign power attempted to do so then the US would stop
them. By force if necessary. </span>
The Enlightenment and the American Revolution changed the way people viewed their relationship to their rulers, because it provided the individual to see that their ruler may not have their best interest at heart. It also helped people see that rationalism is more important than tradition and religion, which the monarchies around Europe often used in a way where it seemed acceptable that they were absolute monarchies, because of tradition.
The region also had many sizable towns. Thus, northern Italy was urban while the rest of Europe was still mostly rural. Since cities are often places where people exchange ideas, they were an ideal breeding ground for an intellectual revolution.
