Jamestown was founded in 1607 and thrived as Virginia's capital for 100 years. It was the first financially successful English colony in the "new world." This was not always the case in Jamestown. However, it eventually became a thriving port town that had many passerbys on their way to start tobacco plantations and new settlers.
