Write an equation for the cubic polynomial functior

Mathematics
1 answer:
d1i1m1o1n [39]3 years ago
6 0

So, the cubic polynomial function is x^3-10x^2+31x-30=0

No, none of the roots have multiplicity.

Step-by-step explanation:

We need to write an equation for the cubic polynomial function

whose graph has zeroes at 2, 3, and 5.

Zeros mean:

x=2, x=3 and x=5

or

x-2=0, x-3=0 and x-5=0

Multiplying all the factors:

(x-2)(x-3)(x-5)=0\\(x-2)(x(x-5)-3(x-5))=0\\(x-2)(x^2-5x-3x+15)=0\\(x-2)(x^2-8x+15)=0\\x(x^2-8x+15)-2(x^2-8x+15)=0\\x^3-8x^2+15x-2x^2+16x-30=0\\x^3-8x^2-2x^2+15x+16x-30=0\\x^3-10x^2+31x-30=0\\

So, the cubic polynomial function is x^3-10x^2+31x-30=0

No, none of the roots have multiplicity, A root has multiplicity if it appears more than 1 time. Like if (x-1)^2 is a root then 1 has multiplicity 2

Together, Dien and Jane can eat 2/3 of a pizza in 4 seconds. How long would it take each of them to eat the whole pizza alone if
Nezavi [6.7K]

Answer:

  • Dien - 15 seconds, Jane - 10 seconds

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Together:</u>

  • 2/3 of pizza ⇒ 4 seconds
  • Full pizza ⇒ 4 ÷ 2/3 = 6 seconds

Dien needs  x seconds to eat pizza

Jane needs  x - 5 seconds to eat pizza

<u><em>In one second, Dien can eat 1/x, Jane can eat 1/(x - 5), together 1/6 of a pizza</em></u>

  • 1/x + 1/(x - 5) = 1/6
  • x(x - 5) = 6(x + x - 5)
  • x² - 5x - 12x + 30 = 0
  • x² - 17x + 30 = 0
  • (x - 15)(x - 2) = 0
  • x = 15 (x = 2 is discounted as not realistic)

Dien can eat a pizza in 15 seconds, Jane can eat a pizza in 10 seconds

Why do two negatives equal a positive when multiplying?
Alenkinab [10]
They cancel out each other

Imagine if you were multiplying
-2 * -3
you would get 6

if you did
-2 * 3
you would get -6 because there isn't another - to cancel it out

I learned it that when you have a negative before a negative, put parenthesis around the second number with the negative, so it looks like this
-(-2)
if you look at the -(- it looks like a plus sign

that probably doesn't make much sense but we cancelling it out is just a rule, we don't really know why we do it
