Given:

One gram of protein contains 4 calories.

One gram of fat contains 9 calories.

A snack has 60 calories from p grams of protein and f grams of fat, then the equation for this relationship is

4p + 9f = 60

To find:

The number of grams of protein and fat in the snack.

Solution:

We have,

4p + 9f = 60         ...(i)

Here, we have two pairs to check, whether each pair of values could be the number of grams of protein and fat in the snack.

The pair of values which satisfies equation (i) are the possible solutions.

First pair of values: 10.5 grams of protein and 2 grams of fat.

Put p=10.5 and f=2 in equation (i).

4(10.5)+9(2) = 60

42+18= 60

60= 60

LHS=RHS

Therefore, 10.5 grams of protein and 2 grams of fat are the possible values of protein and fat.

Second pair of values: 8 grams of protein and 4 grams of fat.

Put p=8 and f=4 in equation (i).

4(8)+9(4) = 60

32+36= 60

68= 60

LHS\neq RHS

Therefore, 8 grams of protein and 4 grams of fat are not the possible values of protein and fat.

You have the correct answer. It is choice C) additive inverse.

The additive inverse is the idea of adding a negative number, which is the same as subtraction. Example: 2 + (-3) = 2-3

Based on the example above, if we start off with 3 and add on its additive inverse -3, then 3 + (-3) = 3-3 = 0. In general, x + (-x) = x-x = 0. So adding any number with its additive inverse gets you 0 every time.

-----------------------------------------------

Extra info:

  • Choice A is ruled out because the commutative property of multiplication is the idea that we can multiply two numbers in any order we want. Eg: 7*8 = 56 and 8*7 = 56, so 7*8 = 8*7
  • Choice B is ruled out as well. The commutative property of addition is similar to the rule mentioned in choice A. But now we're adding. This rule says we can add two numbers in any order. Eg: 4+5 = 5+4 = 9
  • Choice D is ruled out also. The multiplicative inverse of x is 1/x. Multiplying the two together gets you 1. Keep in mind that x cannot be zero. Example: The multiplicative inverse of 99 is 1/99, since 99*(1/99) = 99/99 = 1.

Answer:

GH = 15

Step-by-step explanation:

In a trapezoid, the length of the median is one-half the sum of the lengths of the bases. Therefore:

9x - 3 =  \frac{1}{2} (19 + 5x + 1)

18x - 6 = 5x + 20

13x = 26

x = 2

9(2) -  3 = 18 - 3 = 15
