Do you have a theme or mood in mind when you think of Romanticism? The Romantic movement was all about appreciating feeling and nature and human potential. The Industrial Revolution was crushing the humanness our of human beings. Laborers were little more than cogs in the machinery of the factories where they worked. The Romantic spirit battled against scientific progress and business advancement as the keys to meaning in life. They wanted genuine meaning, felt in the heart, which they sought through poetry and music and artistic expression, and a desire to take in the beauties of the world around us. (The Industrial Revolution was also doing much to rob nature around us of much of its beauty, seeing it only as raw materials to be exploited for profit's sake.)
