attashe74 [19]

Answer:

1. Los problemas fueron resueltos por Rafael

2. We can't change the sentence to passive voice

3. Esa aspiradora fue vendida a un cliente por nosotros

4. Nadar en ese río ha sido prohibido

5. La reservación fue confirmada por la gente de viajes

6. La película resultó aburrida para Carlos y Luis.

Explanation:

Before answering our exercises, we have to remember some grammatical concepts that will be allowing us to understand better the Spanish language.

WHAT IS GRAMMATICAL VOICE? It could be defined as the part of a conjugated verb that shows the semantic relation between:

 • The subject
 • The object
 • The verb

At this respect in Spanish we can identify two voice types:

1. ACTIVE VOICE: The subject of the sentence is the agent of the specific action (verb) that affects an object.

Example: María rompió su bicicleta (María broke her bike)

We can see that María (subject) is who broke (verb) the bicycle (object)

2. PASSIVE VOICE: The subject of the sentence is the patient of the specific action (verb) that is made by an agent.

Example: La bicicleta (object) was broke (verb) by María (agent).

NOTICE how the conjugation of the verb changes according to the type of voice and what we want to express with the sentence. Now we can proceed to answer our exercises; they are presented in ACTIVE VOICE, so we will be changing their form to PASSIVE VOICE.

1. ACTIVE VOICE: Rafael resolvió los problemas

PASSIVE VOICE: Los problemas fueron resueltos por Rafael

2. ACTIVE VOICE: Julia se preparó para el examen

*HERE WE CAN’T CHANGE THE SENTENCE TO “El examen fue preparado por Julia” because by doing that we would change the meaning of the sentence. The nearest form to express the same meaning will be: El examen fue estudiado por Julia; with this we codify that Julia studied to pass the test*

3. ACTIVE VOICE: Le vendimos esa aspiradora a un cliente

PASISVE VOICE: Esa aspiradora fue vendida a un cliente por nosotros

4. ACTIVE VOICE: Se prohíbe nadar en ese río

PASSIVE VOICE: Nadar en ese río ha sido prohibido (here we have an impersonal sentence, so we won’t be specifying the agent)

5. ACTIVE VOICE: La gente de viajes confirmó la reservación

PASSIVE VOICE: La reservación fue confirmada por la gente de viajes

6. ACTIVE VOICE: Carlos y Luis se aburrieron durante la película

PASSIVE VOICE: La película resultó aburrida para Carlos y Luis.
