Executive Order 9066 was passed shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. At this time, the US officially entered World War II.

One of the first actions taken by Roosevelt was the passing of the aforementioned executive order. This allowed the US military to remove citizens from military zones "as deemed necessary or desirable."At this time, the fear of Japanese American citizens being spies ran rampant. This resulted in hundreds of thousands of Japanese American citizens being put into internment camps during World War II.
