A. You need to say that it is chipmunks. Otherwise the reader might infer "these" is in reference to the squirrels.

Answer:

i just read the entire story and the only mention of a sandwich says "you can't really make a meal of paste, or put it on bread for a sandwich, but sometimes i'd scoop a few spoonfuls..." (Not Poor...). so i would like to say the answer is paste but it says he DOESNT use it for a sandwich. is that definitely the exact question?

You did not provide the lines, however, imagery is often used when the writer wants to create a visual image in the minds of his/her reader. It usually consists of numerous descriptions that are often vivid and colorful and highly detailed. You can use that logic on the lines that you might have and see what the correct answer is.
