How could you best help people with eating disorder

Health

Coming from someone who has experienced eating disorders…
-be extremely supportive and patient
-Avoid commenting on appearance or weight. People with eating disorders are already overly focused on their bodies. Even assurances that they’re not fat play into their preoccupation with being thin. Instead, steer the conversation to their feelings. Why are they afraid of being fat? What do they think they’ll achieve by being thin?

-Avoid giving simple solutions. For example, “All you have to do is accept yourself.” Eating disorders are complex problems. If it were that easy, your loved one wouldn’t be suffering.

What habits or practices can contribute to obsessing about food?
kobusy [5.1K]

Answer:

Being unable to eat anything outside of a narrow group of “healthy” or “pure” foods. An unusual interest in the healthiness of what others are eating. Spending hours thinking about what foods might be served at an upcoming event. Constantly weighing yourself and doing body checks on any reflectable surface. Self-inflicted rules that have been picked up over the years, or stem from an external source such as diet/ or the pursuit of weight loss.  Restriction can be physical or psychological.
