Are the lines in “The Bells" of a consistent
length?
cluponka [151]

The lines in "The Bells" are not of consistent length.

Explanation:

Edgar Allan Poe was a 19th-century American writer, editor, and literary critic, regarded as the key figure of Romanticism of American literature. He is best- known for his poetry and short stories, and, in fact, was one of the first American writers to use the short story genre. Besides that, he is credited with the invention of the detective fiction genre and the development of science fiction.

"The Bells" is one of Poe's many poems, characterized by heavy use of onomatopoeia and diacopic use of the word bells. It's believed to have been written in May 1848, but it was published only in October 1949, after Poe's death.

If we take a look at a few of the beginning lines of the poem, we can see that they are not of consistent length as they do not contain the same number of feet:

Hear the sledges with the bells --

Silver bells!

What a world of merriment their melody foretells!

How they tinkle, tinkle, tinkle,

In the icy air of night!

A foot is the basic unit of measurement of accentual-syllabic meter, and usually contains one stressed syllable and one or two unstressed syllables.

What happened when macbeth seen banquos ghost at the coronation dinner?
yanalaym [24]

Answer:

Macbeth was shocked and struck with horror, resulting in his reckless outbursts.

Explanation:

In William Shakespeare's "Macbeth", the character of Macbeth and Banquo were initially friends who used to fight together. On one of their travels, they met three witches who tells them of a prophecy about their futures- Macbeth will become king of Scotland and Banquo's family will inherit the kingdom.

Later, many years passed and Macbeth had killed King Duncan and put himself as the king. But, remembering the withches' prophecy, he ordered his men to kill Banquo and his son Fleance so that there won't be any bloodline of Banquo's to take the throne away from him.

In Act III scene iv, Macbeth and his men, along with Lady Macbeth were sitting in the hall having a coronation dinner when Banquo's ghost appeared to him. Shocked and in terror, he began conversing with the ghost which was visible only to him. Lady Macbeth had to give excuses about her husband's frequent "visions" to the others. The ghost had led to a reckless outburst of Macbeth, prompting the queen to order the men to leave the dinner table.
