In 1952, Rosalind Franklin produced an image of DNA that suggested it contained two strands twisted in a double helix with a phosphate backbone and bases inside. Franklin calculated the diameter of DNA, the distance between strands and bases, the angle of the helix, and the number of bases per coil.

Watson and Crick used this information to build and accurate model of DNA.

Rosalind Franklin was the one who pioneered the structure of DNA through his X-ray diffraction images at King's College. His failure to explain the double helix structure was the reason why Watson and Crick were the person who were accounted by the discovery. The huge model by Cirick and Watson proved the theory of Franklin who failed to give an evidence.

A botanist has acquired a group of sweet pea plants. All of the plants have yellow pea pods (the recessive trait), except for on
Advocard [28]

Answer:

In order to find out the genotype we do a testcross of green pea pods with yellow pea pods.

Explanation:

1. If the F1 generation consist of green pea pods only then the genotype of the green pea pod is 'GG' (i.e the dominant alleles).

                           TEST CROSS

Green pea pods X Yellow pea pods

                                    GG X gg

       Gametes:

                                     G X g

       F1 Generation:

                                 Gg

2. However if the F1 generation consist of 50% green pea pods and 50% yellow pea pods then the genotype of green pea pods is 'Gg' (both the dominant and recessive alleles).

Green pea pods X Yellow pea pods

                               Gg X gg

       Gametes:

                           G g X g

       F1 Generation:

                              Gg, gg

We can relate this to Mendel's Law of segregation and meiosis as

  • Both the alleles segregate into seperate gametes (i.e they are sorted independent of one another).
  • This segregation is similar to the first division of meiosis in which homologous chromosomes of gene are segregated in daughter nuclei

Your friend is a pioneer in ES cell research. In her research, she uses an ES cell line that originated from an inbred strain of
Nezavi [6.7K]

Answer:

Explanation:

a)Organ transplantation requires that the donor organism and recipient be genetically close so that the graft or transplant will not be attacked by the immune system of the recipient leading to rejection and damage. Squeaky is likely to be made up of a different genetic configuration compared to laboratory inbred FG426 mouse

b) ips (induced pluripotent stem cell) on the other hand can benefit squeaky since the cells are somatic cells such as B cells, Keratinocytes, neuronal progenitors cells, kidney and muscles gotten from the donor that are reprogrammed by reactivating silent genes through fusing of another different cell such as ES (embryonic stem cell) and introduction of some transcriptional factors such oct4, sox2,kf4, and k-myc leading to transcriptional activity and DNA methylation. This induced pluripotent stem cells can be grown into organ that can be transplanted to the recipient who was initially the donor of the reprogrammed somatic cells. Because it is from the host, the transplanted organ is not likely to trigger immune response compare to those grown from ES from other bred.
