This was because of radical republicans who were antagonistic towards the South.  Though were laws that now allowed Blacks to vote, they were prevented by White mobs.  This would lead to another 100 years of struggle for equal rights for African Americans to finally be treated as equals.

Because only Germany had the resources to bomb Britain, fight U.S. and British navies on the Atlantic, and invade the Soviet Union across a 1,200 mile front. Therefore, despite their ultimate goal being to fight and win a two front war, the Allies agreed to pursue a "Europe first" strategy. Until Hitler was defeated, the Pacific would be a secondary theater of war. </span>
