Answer:Under the Compromise, California was admitted to the Union as a free state; the slave trade was outlawed in Washington, D.C., a strict new Fugitive Slave Act compelled citizens of free states to assist in capturing enslaved people; and the new territories of Utah and New Mexico would permit white residents to decide

The south gained by the strengthening of the fugitive slave law, the north gained a new free state, California. Texas lost territory but was compensated with 10 million dollars to pay for its debt. Slave trade was prohibited in Washington DC, but slavery was not.

By allowing this to happen, all segment of the french population could give their aspiration and influence the type of laws that can be passed by the french government. This create a bigger sense of unity among the French people and make it easier for them to mobilize under one national identity.
