The mother is older than her daughter by \frac{3}{4}m years

Step-by-step explanation:

Mother is m years old, and she is four times as old as her daughter.

we need to find how much older the mother is than her daughter

  • Put the age of mother equal 4 times the age of daughter
  • Find the age of daughter
  • Subtract the age of daughter from the age of mother to find how much older the mother than her daughter

∵ The mother's age = m

∵ Her age is four times as old as her daughter

∴ m = 4 × daughter's age

- Divide both sides by 4

∴ \frac{1}{4}m = daughter's age

- Subtract the daughter's age from her mother's age

∵ The difference of their ages = m - \frac{1}{4}m

- Change 1 m to a fraction of denominator 4, then 1 m = \frac{4}{4}m

∴ The difference between their ages = \frac{4}{4}m - \frac{1}{4}m = \frac{3}{4}m

∴ The mother is older than her daughter by \frac{3}{4}m years

The mother is older than her daughter by \frac{3}{4}m years

Prove that the triangle EDF is isosceles. Give reasons for your answer.
Gekata [30.6K]

Answer:

\triangle EDF is isosceles.

Step-by-step explanation:

Please have a look at the attached figure.

We are <u>given</u> the following things:

\angle EDF = y

\text{External }\angle DFG = 90 +\dfrac{y}{2}

Let us try to find out \angle E and \angle DFE. After that we will compare them.

<u>Finding </u>\angle DFE<u>:</u>

Side EG is a straight line so \angle GFE = 180

\angle GFE is sum of internal \angle DFE and external \angle DFG

\angle GFE = 180 = \angle DFE  + \angle DFG\\\Rightarrow 180 = \angle DFE + (90+\dfrac{y}{2})\\\Rightarrow \angle DFE = 180 - 90 - \dfrac{y}{2}\\\Rightarrow \angle DFE = 90 - \dfrac{y}{2} ....... (1)

<u>Finding </u>\angle E<u>:</u>

<u>Property of external angle:</u> External angle in a triangle is equal to the sum of two opposite internal angles of a triangle.

i.e. external \angle DFG = \angle E + \angle EDF

\Rightarrow 90+\dfrac{y}{2} = \angle E + y\\\Rightarrow \angle E = 90+\dfrac{y}{2}  -y\\\Rightarrow \angle E = 90-\dfrac{y}{2} ....... (2)

Comparing equations (1) and (2):

It can be clearly seen that:

\angle DFE = \angle E =90-\dfrac{y}{2}

The two angles of \triangle EDF are equal hence \triangle EDF is isosceles.

slamgirl [31]

alison, beatrice and chole each of them have at first 56, 8, 32 books.

alison, beatrice and chole each had some books. alison gave beatrice and chole some books that doubled the number of books they had, lastly chole gave alison and beatrice some books that doubled the number of books they had. each of them had 32 books at the end.

<h3>What is Working backward?</h3>

Working backward is process in which calculation done in reverse direction.

let alison, beatrice and chole has x,y and z books initially,

alison gave beatrice and chole some books that doubled the number of books they had
alison, beatrice and chole has (96-2y-2z), (2y) , (2z)
chole gave alison and beatrice some books that doubled the number of books they had. each of them had 32 books at the end.

alison, beatrice and chole has 2(96-2y-2z), 2(2y) , (96-2(96-2y-2z)-4y)

at the end,
beatrice = 32

4y=32

y = 8

chole =32

96-2(96-2y-2z)-4y)=32
z=32

alison = 96-y-z

x=96-8-32
x=56

Thus the required alison, beatrice and chole each of them have at first 56, 8, 32 books.
