The aztecs and incas at first thought the spanish were gods & messengers of gods. As stated by some primary and historical sources, when the natives saw the Spanish, they gathered together to get ready to meet these 'gods'. Because they were less skeptical, and showned the gold-seeking conquistadors who were much more powerful then them their gold, it led to their downfall.
