The principle of nonviolence (ahimsa) applied to animals is connected with the intention to avoid negative karmic influences which result from violence. The suffering of all beings is believed to arise from craving and desire, conditioned by the karmic effects of both animal and human action. Qing China lost Manchuria to Tsarist Russia. Russia lost the Russo-Japanese War. and they used it as the pretext to invade and occupy all of manchuria and set up the puppet state of Manchukuo. The ploy was exposed and it's led to Japan's withdrawal from the League of Nations.
