Explanation:

After the ousting of king James II, his daughter Mary and her husband William of Orange, the Dutch ruler, acceded to the throne.  They signed the Bill of Rights in 1689, which gave Parliament power over the monarchy. Because Mary and William were Protestants, Protestantism and the Church of England got strengthened as a consequence.
