This is an extract from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Explanation:

  • Ben Roger was of the same age as Tom. When Tom was whitewashing the fence, he came there eating an apple. he was giving a long melodious whoop at intervals with a ding- dong, ding-dong.
  • He was personating a steamboat. He slowed down the speed and pretended as if he was drawing nine feet of water. He acted as if he was the boat, the captain and the engine bell.
  • Then he pretened as if he was stopping the forty feet wheel with a ting-a-ling-ling.
