When Democrat President Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected President of the United States, the US was living harsh economic conditions due to the Great Depression. He inherited a country deeply troubled because, after the US stock market crash of October 29, 1929, the economy of the country lived terrible moments. Millions of people lost their jobs, companies closed, and banks went into bankruptcy.

The US needed a president that immediately took actions and that is what he did. He created the New Deal, a series of programs aimed at helping the poor American citizens.
