In 1915 Ukrainians feared that they were losing power and independence to Russia because Russia captured Ukraine during the time of world war I. That time there was no meaning of the name Ukraine as it was no self identity. It lost its freedom to the powerful country Russia.
During the first world war Russian army entered into Ukraine through Austria. Ukrainians were tortured by the Russian. They were feared as they started losing their power independence to Russia. There arm forces, power was much less in comparison with Russia. That's why Russia easily captured Ukraine.
